  • Title typed by hand, three different fonts on one page
  • Column widths and table borders all over the place
  • Numbered by hand, so there are two number 2s

What I do

Three kinds of problem, and the audio pile in your bottom drawer.

01 — Templates

Templates built on your brand

Word, PowerPoint and Excel templates your whole team can use without a training day — so every document that leaves the building looks like it came from the same place.

  • Heading and body styles that actually work
  • Hierarchical numbering that renumbers itself
  • Automatic contents, headers, footers, page numbers
  • Cover pages, tables and content blocks ready to drop in
  • Short in-document notes so nobody has to guess

For businesses rebranding, new ventures, and teams where every document looks different.

02 — Formatting & rescue

Documents that stopped cooperating

The report due Friday that has gone feral. Send it over and I'll set it right — structure, styles, numbering, tables, the lot.

  • Reports, submissions, tenders, bids and proposals
  • Policies, procedures, manuals and fact sheets
  • Long documents — books, theses, handbooks
  • Resumes, cover letters, flyers and brochures
  • Mail merge, forms and PDF conversions

For anyone who is happy with the content and unhappy with the presentation.

03 — Conversions

InDesign and PDF into files you can edit

Your designer built something beautiful you can't touch. I rebuild it in Word, PowerPoint or Excel so it still matches the brand guidelines — and so you can edit it yourself, forever.

  • InDesign layouts rebuilt as working Office files
  • PDF to Word, PowerPoint or Excel
  • Brand guidelines applied and held
  • Existing document libraries brought onto one template

For marketing teams mid-rebrand, and designers who need an Office deliverable.

04 — Transcription

Audio in, typed and formatted out

Board minutes, interviews, meetings, lectures and voice recordings. Upload the files and get back a clean, structured document — not a wall of text.

Send me
Email this to Janelle

Turnaround depends on length and how busy the week is — I'll confirm a quoted price and a date before any work starts.

How it works

Four steps, and only one of them is yours.

Step 01

Send the file

Email it, or send a link if it's large. Tell me the deadline and anything the document has to comply with.

Step 02

Quoted price first

You receive a quoted price and date before I start. Clear communication along the way.

Step 03

I do the work

You get on with yours. If I hit something that needs a decision, I'll ask once and keep moving.

Step 04

Handover

Editable files back, plus a short plain-English note on how the template works — so your team can use it and not break it.

Client feedback

Legal teams, defence contractors, design studios and schools.

Janelle has become an integral part of our small in-house legal team. A thorough, professional and accurate review of our precedents to align them with our branding, correcting layout and clause cross-links at the same time. She is now indispensable.

Jacqueline Browning

Senior Legal Counsel · Quintessential · September 2026

Very responsive, excellent work ethic, and she knows her stuff. Word templates, formatting reports, fixing corrupted documents. We have been very pleased with her work.

Peter Damen

Principal Consultant & MD · LEVEL5DESIGN · September 2026

Military and aviation manual formatting and scripting for over two years. Prompt, highly accurate and high quality, under some very tight deadlines. We recommend Janelle without hesitation.

David Manzi

Director · Safe Defence Pty Ltd (Poseidon) · September 2026

I wasn't able to give her an extensive brief, but she created what I needed with very little input from me. Responsive and a pleasure to deal with.

Kate Pickworth

Creative Director · KommuniKate · September 2026

Janelle took the problem off me and solved it promptly. I can still edit the document as we work towards the final version, and I haven't managed to break it yet.

Glenn Robinson

AIMS · Sunshine Coast, QLD · October 2025

I was after a Microsoft Office expert, and I hit the jackpot. She turned documents around quickly, solved problems, and worked well with our team.

Prue Myers

FleetPartners · May 2023

Multiple editable templates for our school as part of a rebrand. Efficient, easy to communicate with, and the work came in under budget.

Joanne Cardone

East Adelaide School · November 2023

Twelve thousand kilometres apart and over a weekend, the work came back perfectly in 36 hours.

About Janelle

Janelle McCosker, document specialist

Janelle McCosker · Document specialist

I've spent thirty-five years around business documents — in trades, insurance, education and corporate offices — and since 2019 I've done it for myself, full-time, for a client base that keeps coming back.

What I'm actually good at is the invisible part. Anyone can change a font. Building a document so that the numbering holds, the contents page updates itself, the table doesn't shatter when someone pastes into it, and a new starter can pick it up on day one — that's the job.

You won't be handed to an account manager or an offshore team. Your files aren't shared with anyone, and I'm happy to sign an NDA before you send a thing.

Questions

The things people ask before the first email.

What does it cost?
Every job is quoted once I've seen the file, so you know the number before anything starts. Pricing depends on length, complexity and how much structure the document already has — a tidy 20-page report is a very different job to a 200-page manual built out of manual line breaks.
How fast can you turn it around?
Tell me your deadline and I'll tell you honestly whether I can hit it. Small formatting jobs are often same or next day; a full template set takes longer because it's worth getting right. One client in Canada sent a document across twelve time zones on a Friday and had it back inside 36 hours — that's not a promise, but it's not unusual either.
Is my document confidential?
Yes. Files aren't shared, subcontracted or used as portfolio samples, and I'm happy to sign your NDA or confidentiality agreement before you send anything. A lot of what I work on is commercially sensitive — board papers, tenders, policies, legal documents.
My designer built it in InDesign. Can you make it work in Word?
That's one of my specialties. I rebuild the layout as a genuine Word, PowerPoint or Excel file that follows the brand guidelines and behaves like a proper Office document — so your team can produce on-brand material themselves without going back to the designer every time.
Can my team still edit what you build?
That's the entire point. You get editable source files, not a locked PDF, plus a short plain-English note explaining how the template is put together. Templates are built to be used by normal people under deadline pressure, not by Word experts.
Do you work with clients outside Australia?
Regularly. Current and past clients include businesses in New Zealand and Canada. Time zones haven't been a problem — most jobs run over email and I work to your deadline, not mine.
Do you write the content as well?
My focus is structure, formatting and presentation — making your words look and behave the way they should. I'll flag obvious typos and inconsistencies as I go, and light proofreading can be included if you ask for it up front.
